Out of My comfort Zone!

After Christmas we heard Julie's Mom talking about a hike they were planning on going on. We shared that we were interested, and we were invited. We like to take any opportunity to hike, we love it and the kids seem to also. This particular hike was called Ice house Canyon near Mt. Baldy. We knew this would be different from others because it was December and pretty brisk outside, so we bundled up. When we started on the hike we quickly realized it was much different then we thought. The trail was covered in not only snow, but it had melted and then re froze, so a lot of it was ice.Joshua was carrying J in the hiking backpack, and Julie was carrying Janna in the front carrier. It was not too far into the hike when Julie said out loud that she was out of her comfort zone. She continued to say that throughout the hike. Points of it were quite scary because it is one thing to slip, but neither of us wanted to slip with the kids connected to us. We were taking it really slow. As the hikers were coming down we asked what the conditions were like up ahead. We were wondering if we should continue or just turn around. All the hikers re assured us it would get better up ahead. It did get much better. And the further we went the more beautiful it became. The only thing is we had to go back down the same path at some point. That was when it was scariest, because we were then going down an icy path which is much harder then going up. We took our time. We usually time our hikes well so that Janna is fed before and we have time, so she will make it till we are done too feed her again. But this time we were taking so long to be extra careful Julie had to sit on the changing pad in the snow to nurse Janna. Janna was such a trooper. We took this little break to feed and re evaluate how we were going to get down. Dennis was holding on to Julie the whole way just in case she lost footing with Janna. We all thought there must be another way. So we decided to go off of the path, and walk in the more powder like snow. This was much easier. The only problem was the path led us back to our car. As we kept going on the powder we knew we were getting close to the car, and when we looked around the only way to get where our cars were was to kinda go thru the backyard of a cabin. We thought nothing of it cause we thought the owners would be understanding of us and the situation. This was not the case. Lets just say we ended the hike by running out a gate, to get to our car and we were being chased by a very angry old lady. Apparently we had trespassed in her backyard, and she was not ok with it. Well it ended with lots of laughs, and were were glad to be back to our cars. Not sure if we are ever going to do that type of hike again, maybe if we had spikes on our shoes or something like that. But sometimes its good to be out of our comfort zone. Here are some pictures from our Hike. Enjoy! After our Hike we went to Costco J was tired you will see a picture of him sleeping in the cart kinda funny! Thought we would share.
